Final Regional Show Secures Top Spot for Stock Seat Team (February 8, 2014)
With multiple teams vying for first place in the region, the Albion College stock seat team went into the final regular season double-header feeling a sizeable amount of pressure. By the end of the day, the Britons rode away with reserve champion and champion high point team ribbons. This secured their spot as regional high point team champion, and they will go on to compete at the IHSA stock seat semi-finals as a team, sending their strongest rider from each of the six divisions.
During the first show, held at the MSU Pavilion, there were many first and second places won by Albion riders. Junior Morgan Carey (Hemlock/Saint Charles Community) placed first in open horsemanship and second in open reining, but her highest peak was achieving the regional high point rider award, which automatically grants her a ticket to IHSA nationals!
Sophomores Kaitlyn Anderson (Douglas/Saugatuck) and Camille Sawicki (Jenison/Jenison) finished first in the intermediate and walk-trot divisions respectively. Jordan McGinn (Royal Oak/Shrine) placed second in the intermediate level as well.
The second show again brought first and second place ribbons for Carey, as well as another first place for Sawicki. Other Albion riders, including Megan McNeil (Onondaga/Jackson Christian), Allison Voorhess (Mount Clemons/Lutheran North), and team captain Hannah Pankratz (Bad Axe/Bad Axe) all brought home blue first place ribbons, too.
Sawicki, Voorhess, Pankratz, McNeil, and Carey all qualified to continue on to the regional championship show (held the following day), as well as first year Hannah Schultz (Livonia/Divine Child) who also joined as a regional contender.
