Dr. Michael L. Frandsen
Interim President, Albion College
Dr. Michael L. Frandsen, a member of the Albion College family since 2004 in both academic and administrative leadership positions, was named interim president on July 1, 2013. He will serve in this role through the completion of the College's search for its 16th president.
Before moving to the president's office, Frandsen had been vice president for finance and administration since 2009. As head of the College's business operations, he oversaw the Accounting and Business offices as well as Human Resources, Facilities Operations, Information Technology, Auxiliary Services and the Nancy G. Held Equestrian Center.
Frandsen's first five years at Albion were on the academic side: first as assistant professor of economics and management beginning in 2004, then as director of the Carl A. Gerstacker Institute for Business and Management starting in 2006. Along with leading the institute's curricular, co-curricular and experiential programs, he developed the College’s Student Entrepreneurial Exchange program with ESCIA, a business school near Paris, France. Additionally, he has served the College through his participation on campus task forces on curricular reform and financial modeling.
Prior to joining Albion, Frandsen taught at Juniata College in Pennsylvania for five years, following a career in corporate finance with multinational companies in the defense, chemical, and telecommunications industries. He holds B.S. and M.B.A. degrees from Pennsylvania State University and a Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin with an emphasis in strategic management.
In the Albion community, Frandsen chairs the Board of Directors of the Albion Economic Development Corporation, and is a board member of Homestead Savings Bank. Beyond Albion, he is a member of the Michigan Colleges Foundation's Collective Purchasing Task Force as well as the Student Trust and Advisory Council of Educational & Institutional Insurance Administrators, Inc.
Frandsen is married to Sharon Frandsen, an active volunteer in the Albion community and formerly adjunct instructor of exercise science in Albion College's Kinesiology Department. They have two college-age daughters, Janie and Kate.
