Vive la France: Another Albion Experience in Paris for Wood, '16

Farmington Hills native Julie Wood, '16, a member of the Carl A. Gerstacker Institute for Business and Management and a women's lacrosse team captain, has become rather familiar with Charles de Gaulle Airport. Her initial visit to Paris, in 2012, was part of a first-year seminar exploring the connection between the city of Albion and its Sister Cities. This fall, she crossed the Atlantic again to begin work on a Gerstacker international entrepreneurship project with students from Ecole Supérieure de Vente (SDV), a French business school.

"I came back for the guys I came in with," says Chris Jakubik, '14. The Gerstacker Institute student and senior all-league cornerback for the Albion College football team slowed his course work last spring to take advantage of a remaining year of athletic eligibility. Along the way, he saw an accounting and finance internship at one of the town's leading manufacturers turn into a full-time position over the summer. For Jakubik this fall, it's a full plate of final courses, work, and football. "It has been a wild ride," he says.


For Schubert, '15, Classic-Car Insurer Ensures Career Path

"Since 1984, Hagerty Insurance (founded by Kim Hagerty, '78) has been the world's largest insurer of classic cars and boats," writes Schubert, '15, who completed an internship over the summer at the Traverse City-based firm. "In 2014, Fortune magazine put the company at No. 6 on its Best Medium-Size Companies to Work For list—and it is very obvious why."

Skiing before sunrise may one day be part of the job for Kyle Griffin, '14, who's currently interning with Hotham Ski Company in Australia's Victoria province. A member of Michigan's all-state ski team while in high school, Griffin is working with Hotham's marketing department as well as coaching young members of its race squad.
