Rogers, '14, Stars in Economics Competitions
John Rogers, '14, is the perfect example that competition isn't limited to the athletic arena at Albion College. An economics and management major from Rochester, Mich., Rogers developed the policy stances presented by an Albion team that has reached the final round in a competition sponsored by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). He’s also back as the Britons defend their regional championship in the Federal Reserve Challenge.
Albion Students Finish Second in National Accounting Competition
Albion College students Peter Curry, Evan Malecke, John Rogers, and Don Strite placed second in the national finals of a national competition sponsored by the American Institute of CPAs. Before their finals presentation in Washington, D.C., the team, coached by economics and management professor John Carlson, was one of 20 semifinalists among more than 100 entrants ranging from private liberal arts colleges to public universities.
Trustee Diane Carr, '81, Offers Insight on Work-Life Balance in E&M Class
Women who aspire to have it all can achieve those goals if they define the things they want, Albion College trustee Diane Carr, '81, told students in Vicki Baker's Women in Business & Leadership class.
Carr balanced the responsibilities of being a wife and a mother of two sons while working her way to becoming a partner in the East Lansing law firm of Brookover, Carr & Schaberg before retiring in 2011.
"In general, a woman can have it all, but she has to figure out what having it all means to her," Carr said. "There are tradeoffs."
Dobbins, '12, Selected for Challenge Detroit Program
Albion College graduate Caroline Dobbins says her experience with Caster Concepts, her family's business in Albion, gives her an understanding of how a vibrant Detroit will change the state of Michigan. Her vision of a renewed, thriving and exciting Motor City helped her become one of 30 winners in the Challenge Detroit competition.
Dobbins, who graduated May 5 with an economics and management major and concentration in the Carl A. Gerstacker Institute for Business and Management, will work for hiredMYway.com for the next year while sharing positive attributes about Detroit through social media, live presentations and contacts with mainstream media.
