The Albion College Symphonic Band together with The Cereal City Community Band present their winter concert.
Battle Creek's Cereal City Concert Band (CCCB) joins Albion College's Symphonic Band for an "East Meets West" concert Friday, February 27 at 7:30 p.m. in the College's Goodrich Chapel.
The concert features a number of 20th century composers. Each ensemble will perform pieces alone, and "East meets West" for two final numbers, including Carl King's "General Lee" March.
"I am thrilled to bring both of my ensembles together to perform on the same stage! They are both such a big part of what I am as a musician," said Sam McIlhagga, director of bands at Albion College and director of the CCCB. "It's also going to be a wonderful opportunity for my students to see that there is a 'band life' beyond college! Some of the folks in the community band are retired and STILL make it a point to find a way to make music. It's really shows how music is a life-long pursuit."
The CCCB has some 35-45 members, ranging in age from 16 to 85, including Albion resident Jontaj Wallace. Originally established by employees working in the Battle Creed Federal Center, the CCCB continues to perform at community events and military commemorations throughout the Battle Creek area.
This performance is free and open to the public. For more information, see www.albion.edu/music or contact the Music department at 517/629-0481.
