Bon Appétit CEO Bauccio to Speak at 2014 Albion Commencement
March 14, 2014
Albion College caps its Sustainability Theme Year with Commencement speaker Fedele Bauccio, co-founder and CEO of Bon Appétit Management Company. Commencement will be held Saturday, May 10, at 1 p.m. on the Albion College Quadrangle.
Under Bauccio's leadership, Bon Appétit has revolutionized the food service industry, building an industry leader through hundreds of partnerships with small and local farming operations. The company provides dining services to Albion College and some 400 clients nationwide, preparing foods from scratch with locally grown, sustainably harvested and antibiotic- and hormone-free ingredients. Bauccio's vision of corporate success merged with sustainable agriculture earned him an inaugural James Beard Foundation Leadership Award and the inaugural Natural Resources Defense Council Going Green Award, among a host of other awards.
During the ceremony, an honorary doctorate will be granted to the Rev. Dr. Anna Howard Shaw, who attended Albion College in the 1860s. Shaw rose to national prominence as a suffragist, eventually becoming president of the National American Women's Suffrage Association. Shaw was a protégé and close friend of Susan B. Anthony and played a significant national role in achieving suffrage for women.
Albion College’s Commencement is free and open to the public, except in the case of inclement weather. If Commencement is moved indoors it will become a ticketed event. The Albion College Office of Campus Safety will announce the location of Commencement on the morning of May 10; that information can be obtained by calling 517/629-1234 or by visiting the albion.edu home page.
