Herschend CEO Joel Manby, '81, to Offer 2013 Albion College Commencement Address

Albion College is pleased to announce that Joel Manby, its 1981 valedictorian, will deliver the Commencement address to the Class of 2013 on Saturday, May 11. The graduation procession begins at 12:45 p.m. in the College Quadrangle. Manby will receive an honorary doctor of humane letters degree during the Commencement ceremony.
A standout athlete and distinguished scholar at Albion College, Battle Creek native Manby has spent the past decade at the helm of Herschend Family Entertainment. As its CEO, Manby oversees the operations of 10,000 employees in ten states, at properties including Dollywood in Tennessee and Silver Dollar City in Branson, Missouri. Prior to joining Herschend, Manby spent nearly two decades with General Motors, helping launch the Saturn brand and eventually serving as chief executive officer of Saab Automobile USA. Manby also was featured in a 2010 episode of CBS's "Undercover Boss" TV series.
Manby graduated summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa from Albion College with a degree in economics and management. He was a Rhodes Scholar finalist and received one of four NCAA Division III postgraduate scholarships awarded nationally in 1981. Manby won a total of eight varsity letters in baseball and football and was elected to Albion College's Athletic Hall of Fame. He was named an Albion College Distinguished Alumnus in 2011 and is a former College trustee. Manby earned an M.B.A. from Harvard University and currently lives in Atlanta, Georgia.
Albion College’s Commencement is free and open to the public, except in the case of inclement weather. If Commencement is moved indoors it will become a ticketed event.
