Riding Program

Albion College offers many options in its riding program.

Lessons

Any Albion student or community member is welcome to take riding lessons at the Held Equestrian Center.  Group and private lessons are available for beginners through the most advanced in a variety of disciplines.

Members of Albion's equestrian teams are required to take two lessons per week with our instructors.  Group lessons are emphasized for team members so they may ride different horses during the course of their lessons.

Riding lesson schedules are set at the beginning of each semester.

Our school horses are all types, but are mostly Thoroughbreds, warmbloods, and Thoroughbred crosses. Most come to us with prior competition experience and all are capable of doing basic dressage work on the flat and some jumping, though some specialize in one particular area, including FEI dressage schoolmasters and horses capable of jumping at the 4' level. All of our school horses have been generously donated to our program.

Clinics and symposia

Clinics and symposia with nationally or regionally known trainers are offered periodically at the Held Equestrian Center. Check our News and Events page for upcoming dates.

Summer camp

The Held Equestrian Center offers a summer riding camp geared to girls ages nine through 16.  School horses are available for lease, or riders may bring their own horses.

Horse shows

In addition to intercollegiate competition, many of the College's students compete regularly at USDF, USEA, USEF, USHJA, and other recognized breed and association shows, as well as at schooling shows on campus and in the surrounding region. Travel, coaching, and other services are available.

Additionally, Albion's Held Equestrian Center is an outstanding venue for horse shows and other related events.  The city of Albion has close proximity to I-94 and is just 15 miles from I-69, making it easily accessible for travelers. Our professional staff has many years of experience in organizing and hosting horse shows.
