Albion Makes Impression in Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education Ranking

Albion College’s national reputation continues to shine with a strong placement earlier this month on The Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education College Rankings. On its list of the country’s best liberal arts colleges, Albion was ranked No. 65, one of only four Michigan schools included in the top 100.

“It’s nice to get the recognition,” said Director of Admission Mandy Dubiel. “Just this year, we’ve opened new academic and athletic facilities, increased our enrollment and diversity, and attracted national attention for innovative and sustained community collaboration. Albion is the model for what an exemplary college can and should be.”

According to its website, The Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education College Ranking is based on “performance indicators designed to answer the questions that matter the most to students and their families.” Data gathered annually from more than 100,000 students is used to determine students’ academic and social engagement. The survey also considers each institution’s financial and academic resources, student engagement, employment outcomes for graduates, and the campus environment.

“There are so many college rankings that look at so many criteria,” Dubiel said. “There are lists that look at alumni involvement, energy efficiency on campus, what students do on Friday nights. No one ranking can provide the whole picture. But the fact that we do so well on a number of lists does speak to our overall strength as a great liberal arts college.”
