TEACH Grant

Amount: Up to $4,000 per year

A Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant is for students who are completing or plan to complete coursework needed to begin a career in teaching. The funds are provided as a grant with the agreement to complete a teaching service obligation as a condition for receiving the grant, and if you don’t complete the service obligation, the TEACH Grant will be converted to a loan that you must repay, with interest.

TEACH Grant Eligibility

  • File a FAFSA
  • Be enrolled in a TEACH-Grant eligible program
  • Meet certain academic achievement requirements (generally, scoring above the 75th percentile on one or more portions of a college admissions test or maintaining a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25).
  • Agree to service as a full-time highly-qualified teacher for four elementary or secondary school years at a school or education service agency that serves low-income students
  • Teach in a high-need field; and
  • Complete the required four years or teaching within eight years after you graduate from or otherwise cease to be enrolled at Albion College.

Application Process — First Time

  1. Meet with the Education department and complete Albion’s TEACH Grant counseling form.
  2. Complete the TEACH Grant counseling through the Department of Education.
  3. Sign a TEACH Grant Agreement to Serve or Repay.
  4. Once we receive the completed form, we will add the TEACH Grant to your account. The funds will not pay out until you have completed steps 2 and 3.

TEACH Grant Renewal

You must complete TEACH Grant Counseling and sign a new TEACH Grant Agreement to Serve or Repay for each year you borrow the funds.

TEACH Grant Exit Counseling

Students who receive a TEACH Grant must complete TEACH Grant Exit Counseling before you stop attending Albion College, or within 30 days of ceasing enrollment.
