Student Research
Complex problems require creative solutions. Put your ideas to work.
At Albion, your career in research starts from your first day in the classroom. You’ll identify the topics that inspire you the most in your study and pursue independent and group research through your major, with our faculty as mentors and research partners. Then, you’ll take your ideas further through the Foundation for Undergraduate Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activity (FURSCA).
Foundation for Undergraduate Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activity (FURSCA)
Study the nesting habits of female house wrens in the Whitehouse Nature Center or investigate patterns of self-presentation on social media. Through the Foundation for Undergraduate Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activity (FURSCA), you’ll have the opportunity to be paired with a faculty mentor to develop and carry out hands-on, original research of your own design. We offer funding for summer and semester research projects and conference grants to assist students with travel to present research results at professional meetings.
I did three FURSCA projects when I was at Albion. FURSCA is great because I had a portfolio right away when I wanted to go to grad school, and I got into a really prestigious one.
Elkin R. Isaac Student Research Symposium

Student & Faculty Research
As a student at Albion, you’ll find mentors in every class. From investigating the origins of life in NASA-funded research to examining how the changing roles of fathers is impacting our understanding of masculinity in America, our faculty are actively conducting research that advances their fields of study. Thanks to our 12-to-1 student-to-faculty ratio, you’ll work alongside faculty experts in lab and field research, and receive one-on-one mentorship when you pursue a research project through FURSCA.
Off-Campus Research
Broaden your horizons and expand the scope of your work by conducting research around the country and world. Many of our majors and programs offer field research in the U.S. and abroad. You’ll also have the opportunity to spend a semester or summer studying abroad in a location like Japan, Italy, Australia or India. Or you can spend a semester working and conducting research in Philadelphia, Washington, D.C. or Chicago.
