Albion College’s  Maemester Boundary Crossings program has been preparing teachers to thrive in classrooms for 18 years.

Four Albion College alumni will share their inspiring stories about meaning and value in their work and personal lives at the annual Brit Talks

The lessons are as diverse as the classrooms in which the Albion College teacher candidates present them. The topics involve poetry, plants, the civil war, civic engagement, science and more.

Vicki Baker, professor of economics and management at Albion College, is considered an expert on helping faculty members figure out what’s next in their careers. When she is not teaching, she devotes much of her time helping others find their career advancement and leadership opportunities. She has written several books about the topic. Being named as an American Council on Education (ACE) Fellow for 2023-24, she will now turn that focus on her own career.

Taran McZee knows that Albion College is serious about diversity, equity and inclusion.

A state MiSTEM grant is facilitating new K-5 lessons to be introduced in 2023.

For Albion education students, it’s often a life-changing moment. During “Maemester,” they are immersed in a public school classroom full-time for three weeks to teach their own unit plan. All eyes are on them!

Education professor Suellyn Henke and her First-Year Seminar students had a unique social/cultural/political experience during their trip to Hawai’i last month. The Albion group visited the ongoing peaceful protest at the base of Mauna Kea. where they participated in a traditional ceremony establishing a relationship between their Michigan college and the sacred mountain.

Sarah Mondale’s film about the tough questions facing public education, schools of choice and charter schools is making the rounds across the country and around the world, and now it will be shown in Albion—on Wednesday, March 21, at 7 p.m. at the downtown Bohm Theatre. Its message, she believes, resonates with everyone.
