I-Space

A language learning and living area for students and teaching assistants

Albion College offers language-learning housing for language students in French, German, and Spanish and their respective Native Speaker Teaching Assistants. This residential space serves as a “living laboratory” where Albion College students can practice their conversational skills with fellow students and native speakers. Residents call their building the I-Space. The Office of Community Living refers to it as the Modern Languages & Cultures Living Learning Community (MLAC LLC).

Dean Hall

Students pledge to speak the intended language within their living quarters. Eligible students can earn .25 unit for residency in I-Space for one semester and active participation in weekly language tables and weekly cultural activities in the student’s respective language house.  Students add this course during the first week of classes, once they have moved in.

The I-Space is located in Dean Hall on Erie Street.

For more information on housing, visit the Office of Community Living site.

Participate in College Events and Sponsor Your Own

The I-Space residents traditionally participate in the Britton Bash, Home-Coming, and The Spooktacular at Halloween.

The I-Space also sponsors an annual International Dinner each fall and a Mega Cultural Event each spring.

The I-Space offers opportunities to use your target language and become exposed to different cultures.  The Native Speaker Teaching Assistant for each language house leads a weekly cultural activity and a weekly language table in the common living area of the I-Space.  The schedule for the Spring 2025 semester is:
