As Giving Tuesday approaches on November 30, Albion College celebrates those whose generous philanthropy has benefited the institution. During Homecoming last month, the College commemorated the addition of 50 new names to the Leaders in Philanthropy wall in the Kellogg Center’s Langbo Living Room. Additionally, four new stories on the wall share the donor experiences of Dr. James Curtis, ’44; Dr. Bruce and Peggy Sale Kresge, ’53 ’53; Murray and Jean Swindell, ’56 ’58; and Barbara Weiskittel, ’83.
“The Leaders in Philanthropy Wall was unveiled in 2019 by Institutional Advancement as a way to honor our donors, who through their lifetime of giving have made transformational investments in Albion College,” says Kimberly Frick Arndts, ’84, executive director of donor relations and stewardship. The new stories and names can be viewed by anyone who visits the KC Living Room.
Vice President for Institutional Advancement Marc Newman addressed the attendees at the October event. “When you invest in a student from Albion College, what you’re doing is investing in the future,” Newman said. “And what you have done through your contributions is you’ve invested in leaders.”
A day on the calendar that has emerged as one for investing in the future is the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, which this year is November 30. On Giving Tuesday, many choose to give to the people and places that are important to them.
“Giving Tuesday was created in 2012 as a global generosity movement,” says Talmon Butler, senior director of annual campaigns and digital engagement at Albion. “It was created with one simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good by giving back.”
The day has become significant each year for the College. “Giving Tuesday is important at Albion because it is a time to show our love and support for the College through action, giving back and investing in our students,” Butler says. “On Giving Tuesday and every day, we want all donors to know that the size of the gift does not matter. We encourage and hope those who love Albion College will join in on the fun of giving to Albion. When we give, we send a strong message of support to our student community: every gift matters, every donor matters.”
Students of Albion College who benefit from the generous contributions of donors go on to be bold changemakers in their communities. A gift to Albion makes a lasting impact in young lives, an effect that reverberates for decades to come. Says Butler: “Giving Tuesday offers that opportunity to matter and be a part of something special.”
