Jessica Thomas serves as Director for the Bureau of Local Government and School Services at the Michigan Department of Treasury. Thomas originally joined the State of Michigan as Administrator for the School Review and Fiscal Accountability Division as was promoted to her current role in 2021. She is responsible for the administration and enforcement of laws that implement provisions of the Michigan Constitution for the General Property Tax Act, uniform system of accounting and auditing for local units of government and school districts, and the preservation of the credit of the state.
Jessica has a long history in state and local government and has served as a financial consultant, school board trustee, governmental auditor, advocate, speaker, policy advisor and researcher.
Thomas graduated from Albion with a degree in economics and management and upon graduation worked with the accounting firm Rehmann in Jackson, Michigan. She is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Sigma Zeta Chapter Albion College fall 2001.
Thomas and her husband, Doug, reside in Birmingham, MI with their daughter Tyra Thomas-Spratley also an Albion College graduate class of 2020 .
