Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine (WMed)
Preferred Relationship
A preferred relationship between Albion College and WMed provides the opportunity for all qualified Albion students to participate in the WMedStart early decision program. This allows Albion students to be accepted into the medical degree program at WMed during their junior or senior year at Albion.
Central Michigan University
Doctor of Medicine (M.D.)
Central Michigan University College of Medicine and Albion College agree to establish a cooperative program of premedical/medical education by which premedical students at Albion College shall be granted an early assurance of admission to CMU College of Medicine through the Early Assurance Program.
The Early Assurance Program (hereinafter, “Program”) provides an enhanced opportunity for admission to medical school to up to three premedical students who demonstrate a desire to practice medicine in Michigan with an emphasis on rural and underserved regions. Preference for admission to the Program will be given to students who align with the mission of Central Michigan University College of Medicine and also emulate CMU College of Medicine’s core values which may be displayed by virtue of being a first-generation college student, graduating from a low-income high school as defined by the United States Department of Education, being eligible for or a recipient of an undergraduate PELL grant, graduating high school from a medically underserved urban or rural area, or demonstrating interest in a high need medical specialty area.
Oakland University
Second Degree (4+1) Nursing Program
Nursing is a much sought-after profession, and the nursing program admission process is highly competitive. In order to help our students enter this dynamic healthcare career, Albion College and Oakland University have formed a partnership for students committed to this profession.
This partnership will allow Albion students who wish to pursue nursing to have the excellent liberal arts education that Albion provides along with the ability to become a registered nurse about a year after graduation. Albion students take a series of prerequisite courses, each requiring specific grades, and take three nursing courses at Oakland University. These courses are available on-line and most students take them during summer break. Students are still eligible to complete a major of their own choosing.
Students will also complete an application to Oakland University’s program, along with a personal interview. And since Oakland University has three start times during the year, there is flexibility as to when the student begins the program. Once there, students take 12 calendar months worth of nursing courses and participate in clinical experiences. The student will then graduate from Oakland University with a bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) degree and is eligible to sit for the NCLEX exam.
Albion courses to complete:
- Biology 195, 210, 314, 341 and 332
- Chemistry 121, 123 and 211
- Math 125 or 141
- Psychology 101 and 251
- Any Philosophy course
