Sustainability & Environmental Education & Advocacy
The Sustainability Education and Advocacy Certificate explores intersectional identities, activism, policy, and the state of the environment and provides the foundation for being an effective environmental and sustainability advocate. Immersive opportunities including field trips, working with activist experts, developing communication skills, and community partnerships guide students in understanding the social impact of sustainability.
Sustainability and Environmental Project Leadership
Students pursuing the Sustainability Project Leadership certificate participate in and lead sustainability projects by uniting diverse skill sets and identities with education to work collaboratively towards a sustainable future. This certificate drives students to think critically, and creatively, to design and implement sustainability projects through cross-campus and community partnerships.
Sustainability & Environmental Research
The Sustainability and Environmental Research certificate attracts a wide variety of majors through individualized opportunities to engage in research and present in professional settings. A student’s original research is strengthened with professional development that includes career exploration and interdisciplinary learning on the intersection of the natural world with social justice and ethics. Note this certificate could be easily retooled for students completing original creative fine arts projects.

James L. Curtis Institute for Social Change
Social Contexts of Inclusive Youth Development
The James L. Curtis for Social Change offers an Experiential Certificate in Social Contexts of Inclusive Youth Development. This certificate prepares students to lead and serve within human services organizations, schools, juvenile justice, faith-based or non-profit organizations, and diverse informal learning settings. Internship and community engagement opportunities support students’ understandings of the socio-spatial, socioeconomic, gender, racial and other disparities that prevent access and persistence within youth-serving settings. This certificate is designed specifically for students who wish to serve diverse youth populations post-graduation.
Race and Social Justice
The James L. Curtis for Social Change offers an Experiential Certificate in Race and Social Justice. This certificate will provide a documented experiential learning sequence for students particularly interested in creating, analyzing, and leading conversations about racial identity, advocacy, and institutionalized racism in a United States context. It is intended for students who desire a sophisticated understanding of historical and ongoing racial justice issues, movements, policies, and structures. This certificate supports the critical appreciation of the social, political, and racial contexts of our public and interpersonal lives.
Volunteer and Community Resource Management
The James L. Curtis for Social Change offers an Experiential Certificate in Volunteer and Community Resource Management. This certificate prepares students to work with volunteers in the community, non-profit agencies, and businesses. Students will learn key aspects of volunteer management, leadership, community asset mapping, program planning, and evaluation. Students will have exposure and familiarity with various volunteer management models and examine volunteer-dependent organizations. Students will explore organizational recruitment practices, risk management policies, and how to select, train, engage and recognize volunteers.

Gerald R. Ford Institute for Public Policy and Service
Governance & Policy
Graduates of this certificate will become public servants as they gain extensive knowledge of the policy process so they can effectively participate in democratic governance, practice engaged citizenship, and advocate for legislative action, regardless of their profession. Students may choose to focus on local government, state and federal policy, or international policy and diplomacy.
Human Rights Advocacy
Graduates of this certificate will prepare to become the next generation of human rights professionals as they discover how to identify injustice, analyze its causes, and undertake strategic advocacy to promote equity and defend the dignity and fundamental rights of all persons.
Legal Studies
Graduates of this certificate will develop an interdisciplinary understanding of the law. This includes an introduction to the legal field by investigating essential concepts, exploring various career pathways, developing necessary skill sets, and accessing resources needed to prepare for a successful legal career.

Carl A. Gerstacker Institute for Business
Fundamentals of Hospitality Management
The Carl A. Gerstacker Institute offers an Experiential Certificate in Fundamentals of Hospitality Management. This certificate introduces students to the knowledge and skills necessary for effective leadership in the hospitality industry, and the operations and functions of diverse venues. Students will apply critical thinking skills, creativity, professional writing and business management principles during supervised on-campus and off-campus employment and internships. Students will develop and demonstrate knowledge of environmentally and culturally responsible economic development.
Leadership in Business
Leading an organization requires skills and traits such as being self-aware, having integrity, and communicating clearly. This certificate will help students to explore the difference between leading and managing and start to complete training in areas important to leadership. Students will have the opportunity to engage with leaders in the business world and begin to build their network.

Lisa and James Wilson Institute for Medicine
Clinical Care
Earning a certificate in clinical care ensures students gain hands-on patient care experience and develop a caregiving mindset while working in clinical settings. In addition to completing a certification program in CNA, scribe, or phlebotomy, students will gain meaningful job shadowing and community service experience, providing students opportunities to explore different careers in healthcare.
Drug Design
The drug design certificate supports students interested in pursuing medical research with the attention to detail, time management, and problem solving skills needed for a career in research. This certificate pairs biology and biochemistry coursework with practical hands-on research opportunities through FURSCA and off-campus partnerships.
Emergency Medicine
The emergency medicine certificate provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to problem solve and think critically while assisting others in life threatening situations. Students earning this certificate can participate in an EMT certification program and instruct CPR courses on campus and in the Albion community.
Global and Community Health
Students interested in helping others improve their lives and enhance quality of life in a community by blending healthcare with public health and human services should consider earning a certificate in global and community health.
