Commencement is not only a time of ushering the graduating class of 2024 into the next phase of their journeys, but also our esteemed Albion College faculty and instructional staff retiring after decades of commitment and service.

A team of Albion College students have developed a web application designed to assist with military resource management through a project partnership between Black & Rossi, LLC and the Albion College Community Collaborative, or AC3.

People don’t readily link math and art. But, for the Albion professor, they are intrinsically connected. And he has an award to prove it.

Over spring break, five students and three chaperones visited Las Vegas, part of Dr. Mark Bollman’s Mathematics of the Gaming Industry class.

For 99 hours over a February weekend, three Albion teams chose from six questions, created a mathematical model and wrote a paper together.

An offering of the Mathematics and Computer Science Department, the rigorous sequence of courses within a broader liberal arts framework—with degree pathways available to all students—will strongly position Albion data science graduates in a robust career marketplace.

Beyond the challenging coursework, getting a job in actuarial science requires passing a series of some of the most difficult professional examinations in the country. Albion College’s Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, which supports students in the extensive and expensive process of passing these tests, recently celebrated with Claire Mitchell, ’21, after she passed the Society of Actuaries Probability Test.

This fall, after an absence of almost 10 years, computer science returns to Albion College as a major. Citing a new campus environment and growing enrollment, officials saw this an ideal opportubnity to bring it back. “In today’s world, it’s an integral part of education.” said Provost Marc Roy.
