Scholarship Auditions
Students planning to declare any major may audition for a music scholarship at Albion. Music auditions at Albion College are intended solely for the purpose of scholarships. In keeping with the rich tradition of liberal arts at Albion College, the Department of Music does not require auditions to become a Music Major.
Students are encouraged to audition on one of the department’s audition days:
- Friday, November 22, 2024
- Friday, January 31, 2025
- Saturday, February 1, 2025
- Friday, February 7, 2025
Those who are unable to attend any of these dates can arrange an audition on a separate date by emailing [email protected] or filling out our contact form.
Scholarship Deadline
For priority scholarship consideration, high school seniors and transfer students must apply by Friday, Feb. 28, 2025.
Scholarship Audition Steps
Music Scholarship candidates will:
- Apply to Albion College and express interest in music on application
- Schedule an audition
- Audition on campus with the music faculty
Prepare for Audition
Students must audition and complete an interview with the Music Department prior to receiving their scholarship decision. Students who’ve expressed interest in music on their application will be contacted regarding audition submission and to schedule an interview. For questions regarding your audition, please contact the Office of Admission at [email protected].
Music Scholarship Expectations
If awarded a music scholarship, the student is required to enroll in one of the department’s major ensembles (Concert Choir, Jazz Ensemble, Marching Band/Symphonic Wind Ensemble, or Symphony Orchestra) every semester in order to receive funds for the school year.
Once awarded, scholarships are guaranteed for all four years of college provided all requirements are fulfilled and the student is in good standing in the department. Our Financial Aid office works to supplement music scholarships with other kinds of aid to make an Albion education more affordable.
Audition Expectations
We encourage students to perform music which best showcases their abilities. In addition to the prepared materials, a brief sight-reading exercise is expected. Guidelines and repertoire suggestions for voice and specific instrumental areas can be found below.
Recorded Auditions
All scholarship auditions must be done in person on campus, except in extenuating circumstances (for example, if a student lives a significant distance away and is unable to visit campus).
Please email the audition coordinator Nicholas Laban ([email protected]) to arrange a recorded audition. If approved, the student must submit videos of their repertoire selections, as well as any scales if applicable (see audition requirements for specific instruments below). These files should be shared via a Google Drive folder.
Once the faculty has reviewed the videos, a Google Meet will be set up in which the student will do an informal interview with the faculty, as well as a sight-reading excerpt if needed.
