Coy James Lecture in American History: Smallpox and Revolution

Dr. Andrew Wehrman, professor of history at Central Michigan University and author of The Contagion of Liberty: the Politics of Smallpox in the American Revolution, is the History department's Spring 2025 Coy James Lecturer in American History. He will speak on George Washington's controversial decision to inoculate the colonial troops against smallpox, the impacts of that decision, and the legacy of 18th-century smallpox politics in modern-day American public health. The event will take place on Monday, January 27th at 4:30 p.m., in Norris 102, and is free and open to the public.
