Dr. Isaac Oliver/de Oliveira will be the featured speaker at the 2025 Yinger Family Lecture on Wednesday, April 9, at 7 pm, at Albion College’s Bobbitt Auditorium.
Oliver/de Oliveira is a Jewish Brazilian-American scholar of early Judaism and Christianity and a conversation partner with scholars of early Islam. His topic will be the crucifixion of Jesus in the New Testament, the Talmud, and the Qur’an.
Oliver/de Oliveira is an associate professor of religious studies at Bradley University. He earned his doctorate in Near Eastern Studies at the University of Michigan. He was a fellow at the Frankel Institute for Advanced Judaic Studies in the Fall of 2012 and directeur d’études invité at the Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes, Spring 2023.
His books include Torah Praxis after 70 CE: Reading Matthew and Luke-Acts as Jewish Texts (Mohr Siebeck, 2013) as well as Luke’s Jewish Eschatology: The National Restoration of Israel in Luke-Acts (Oxford University Press, 2021). Currently, he is working on a commentary on the Gospel of Luke for the Oxford Bible Commentary Series (Oxford University Press).
