The 25-block Harrington Neighborhood, located on and around Cass Street just west of the Albion College campus approaching downtown, is featured in the September/October edition of The Review, a publication produced by the Michigan Municipal League. The project, which launched in early 2016 following a $1 million gift from Michael and Judy Harrington, ’85 ’86, is starting to make a notable impact as faculty and staff renovate existing homes, construct new houses and become an even closer part of the Albion community.

Zach Fischer has brought his lifelong love of acting to Albion College and hopes to show students, through his experience in the rough-and-tumble industry, that doing good work is often its own reward.

Like a lot of students leaving home for college, Xingzhu “Ceci” Wang was encouraged by family and friends to keep them updated via social media. Unlike a lot of students, “I stopped doing this because I was confused as to whether it helped people really know about my life in Albion,” Wang says. “Even if I post everything, there can be a lot of misunderstandings.”

Earlier this summer, 12 Albion College students and two staff members attended the National Conference for College Women Student Leaders at the University of Maryland, College Park. The conference, organized by the national office of the American Association of University Women, has a legacy of more than 30 years and annual attendance of about 1,000 participants from around the country and world.

A recent significant grant from the Charles J. Strosacker Foundation, based in Midland, Mich., will thoroughly enhance the day-to-day experience of Albion College student-athletes and coaches for many years to come. The $500,000 awarded by the Foundation earlier this summer will go toward a complete update of the weight room in the Dow Recreation and Wellness Center as well as a wall-to-wall renovation of four locker rooms serving eight different teams.

A crowd of hundreds convened on the Quad and on the roof of Palenske Hall to witness the first solar eclipse to cross the entire continental United States since 1918. In Albion, skygazers saw the moon cover nearly 90 percent of the sun for a couple of minutes during the nearly three-hour astronomical event.
