Experiential Learning

Experiential Learning

Students conducting research at the river

Experiential learning has long been a hallmark of an Albion education. Supported by our distinguished centers and institutes and deep connections to our community, we aim for every Albion student to receive an education that is locally grounded and rich in opportunities for collaboration, civic engagement, professional exploration, and leadership. When we deepen and make more universal connections between learning in the classroom and engagement with the campus, local community, and the world, our students are better prepared for life and work when they graduate.

Below are examples of some funds that support experiential learning for Albion College students. To explore other interests, please contact us at [email protected].

Build Albion Fellows

Established in 2014, the Build Albion Fellows (BAF) program is a competitive, four-year funding opportunity for graduating high-school seniors who reside in the City of Albion. Focused on offering access to students engaged in community service, BAF participants work to improve life in Albion via direct and indirect service-learning opportunities. In exchange, BAF participants receive tuition, room, board, and books. BAF students become enriched by programming that supports responsible and reciprocal community engagement and leadership informed by principles of equity, solidarity, and power-sharing.

FURSCA

The Foundation for Undergraduate Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activity (FURSCA) was established to promote and support student research, original scholarship, and creative efforts in all disciplines. Albion College’s unique approach which provides one-on-one interaction with and supervision by a faculty member enhances a student’s preparation for graduate school or future employment. Students may take advantage of FURSCA activities as early as their first year.

Gifts to FURSCA help to support academic year grants ($500/student), student attendance/presentations at conferences ($700/student), and summer research opportunities ($6,500/student).
