What began as stargazing and watching the aurora borealis as a kid in rural Wisconsin has led her to the stratosphere of her discipline and her latest achievement — being elected as a 2022 Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).

“When I came back after the renovations, I was glad to see all of my problems were solved,” said Loukotka, a third-year student from Pinckney majoring in political science. “The carpet and the stains had been replaced and the new unit they installed got rid of the humidity issue, while simultaneously cooling down the place. The new renovations gave me the opportunity to move into basically a new apartment. And I truly enjoy having the opportunity to live there and call it home.”

It’s a story about New York City and its residents — but Albion College history professor Marcy Sacks was the expert who contributed to an article featured in the Feb. 15 edition of the New York Times. The article, “Before Lincoln Center, San Juan Hill was a Vibrant Black Community,” describes the predominantly Black and Hispanic neighborhood that was razed to build the Lincoln Center.

Today, we are all Spartans.

Our hearts are with MSU’s students, faculty and staff as they navigate through the shooting on their campus last night that took the lives of three students, severely injured five more and impacted so many of the Spartan family. As Britons, we are sending our collective thoughts and prayers as they find a resolution to this horrific incident and work through needed healing during this difficult time.
