The Newell Center for Teaching and Learning

Celebrating 10 Years!

The Newell Center for Teaching and Learning supports the pedagogical development of Albion College faculty and staff. We offer programs that facilitate the exchange of ideas about teaching and learning, provide access to resources for pedagogical development, foster a campus culture centered on teaching and learning, and equip teachers for all stages of their careers.

We continue to host a series of programs centered around the Course in Effective Teaching Practices provided by the Association of College and University Educators (ACUE). Topics include Supportive Learning Environments, Active Learning, and Higher Order Thinking. Many thanks to the Council of Independent Colleges (CIC) for their generous sponsorship!

The Newell Center for Teaching and Learning works in partnership with:

The GLCA/GLAA Consortium for Teaching and Learning, a program of the Great Lakes Colleges Association and the Global Liberal Arts Alliance. Teachers from the 13 Great Lakes Colleges and our global partner institutions collaborate online to share pedagogical resources and to form communities of practice.

The CIC Consortium for Instructional Excellence, a network of 26 CIC colleges and universities. At each institution, at least 20 faculty members will spend the year taking the ACUE Course in Effective Teaching Practices. The Consortium aims to equip participating faculty with skills for more effective teaching and career guidance.
